About the event

This event was on Aid Effectiveness and Correlation between Development Assistance and SDGs in Southeast Europe as the top recipient of Development Assistance per capita in the world. Work on financing the UN 2030 Agenda is three-pronged: mobilisation, alignment, and impact. There is a need to ensure that development cooperation approaches and tools can effectively respond to the new complexity of sustainable development by providing appropriate support to countries as they transition through different phases of development. OECD/DAC statistics remain the global standard, however, requires continued effort to collect, verify, compare and publish data on ODA and beyond, through updated methodologies, monitoring of members' compliance with the reporting rules and with specific DAC Recommendations, data quality reviews, capacity-building workshops and statistical peer reviews. To help achieve the SDGs in developing countries, development cooperation providers need a comprehensive measure of sustainable development financing that suits partner country needs, facilitates country-level planning processes, and increases international transparency with information on a broader set of resources at country, regional and global levels from all providers. Based on our above thinking, we have invited OECD Secretariat to make a keynote speech on the interaction between Development Assistance and the UN SDGs and Agenda 2030 in the regional context. After OECD, we invited Greece, the current SEECP Chair in Office, and Turkey, one of the largest ODA donors in the SEE region and the world per its GNI, to share their views on the interaction between development assistance and SDGs as well as overall aid effectiveness in the context of Agenda 2030 and SEE2030. In addition, we deem it appropriate to invite the representatives of Croatia to share their views in this regard as it has recently turned from an ODA recipient country to a donor. We would also be approaching the European Commission, Germany and USA as the largest development assistance donors in the SEE region and to share their views regarding aid effectiveness and correlation between ODA and SDGs at this event.
